Natalia’s journey in the field of Biokinetics began at the University of Western Cape where she graduated with distinction in BSc Sport Science laying a solid foundation in biomechanics and exercise physiology. Seeking continuous growth, Natalia, thereafter, pursued her postgraduate studies at the University of Cape Town, graduating with top honours in BSc(Med)(Hons) Biokinetics. This phase of her education was instrumental in broadening her knowledge base and this advanced training equipped her with the in-depth knowledge and practical skills essential in the designing of effective exercise programs tailored to individuals’ personalised needs and goals.
One of the pivotal experiences in Natalia’s professional development was the completion of her internship at the Sport Science Institute of South Africa, in 2022. During her internship, she had the privilege of working with diverse clientele, including individuals with orthopaedic conditions, neurological conditions, and chronic health issues. This practical exposure allowed her to develop and implement personalised rehabilitation programs tailored to the individual needs of each client. Witnessing the positive impact of exercise on improving physical function and quality of life further fueled her passion for this field.
After her internship, she further pursued her academic journey by completing a Masters in Philosophy in Biokinetics which delved into the intricacies of the field. A significant aspect of her postgraduate studies was the completion of her dissertation, which focused on assessing the effectiveness of Pilates exercise modalities in alleviating chronic non-specific lower back pain.
Natalia’s academic journey together with her practical experience has strengthened her commitment as a biokineticist and healthcare professional specialising in using exercise and physical activity to promote health, prevent or manage diseases and rehabilitate injuries. By integrating movement and exercise science principles, she focuses on assessing, treating and optimising physical function and performance to enhance the well-being of those dealing with a variety of ailments.
Consultations: What to expect
Your initial consultation, lasting 45-60 minutes, is a comprehensive assessment where she will delve into your medical history, evaluate your posture and movement through range of motion and muscle strength tests, and conduct specialised assessments like functional movement, balance, and stability tests. Natalia will further educate you on your injury or condition, including causes and preventive measures going forward, and together, you and her will set rehabilitation goals and create a strategy to achieve them.
Follow-up biokinetics sessions are supervised and periodised to your needs, and you’ll also receive exercises for independent practice at home. These efforts contribute to improved injury recovery and quality of life, helping you progress steadily until you reach your pre-injury state or functioning.
Building a healthy body is like sculpting a masterpiece – it demands dedication and persistence. One session will not transform it entirely. Supervised training acts as your sculpting mentor, guiding precision and preventing mistakes. Consistent effort refines your sculpting technique, like perfecting each stroke. Expecting instant results is like expecting a masterpiece overnight; true progress requires time and commitment. Natalia is here to help you sculpt your way to a healthier, stronger you.
